Tyria in GW 2 logo?
Probably been mentioned before; but is this Tyria in the Guild Wars 2 logo?
Shape of the coastline isn't exactly the same, but still looks a bit the same as the original map, there's also Mountains (Shiverpeak Mountains) visible at the same place as on the Tyrian map.

GW2 is set 100 years after GW1 so I'm assuming much of it will be the same (in terms of continents) but will be different in layout (i.e ascalon may look like pre-searing ascalon, the swamps may have been turned to land in kryta, jungle may have been cut down (or parts of it))

I actually find that interesting. You can clearly see that most of the snow in the Northen Shiverpeaks has vanished. When i saw the logo i thought it a reuse of the old Tyria map but it appears pretty different. So it appears to be Tyria hundreds of years into the future.

Well, according the the above picture then. The Desert becomes green, islands shift and the river coming from the Shiverpeak Mountains crawl up even more.
Excellent observation !

I noticed this too! You can clearly see where the D'Alessio arena used to be before the Battle Isles, as well as Kryta and the island/peninsula Sanctum Cay is located on. The Shiverpeaks seem to have gone (global warming?). More likely though, GW2 may simply be a larger game world and they may have ignored some canon and added more to Kryta instead of simply enlarging the already existing areas, though the "new" area of Kryta definitely seems to be in place of the shiverpeaks.

Heck, in 200 years, who knows what our earth will look like due to global warming...*cough*.
Off topic you know.
But getting back on....
Yeah, that is Tyria, I first noticed the unmistakeable little battle island for Random's back in the day...la la la.
Well yep, thats definatly Tyria. But since GW2 isn't even in Alpha yet, we have no idea whatsoever what the map will look like. In fact that might just be a logo that is being used now, just to show people something visual, doesn't mean thats what the real world will look like.

You can see some snow. Either the Shiverpeaks really HAVE shrunk due to global warming/some other event, or my theory of them expanding the continent to make for larger ground to cover is true (and them making some distortions in the process), or, again, it's just an oversight/concept art and will have nothing to do with the size of the Shiverpeaks in GW2.
Either way, I'd prefer the shivers to be larger or remain the same, as they're one of my favorite areas.

Remember, it's just "The World from Above".
Everything is much bigger when you have both feet (or in Guildwars 2, all four) on the ground.
But, I agree. I think that they likely just took out small things (please be for the time being) like the Islands, and reduced the size of Shiverspeaks so they could show more of the world as a whole.

Continents shift around in real life, so it's possible Tyria does too.
Maybe the Shiverpeaks melting and the desert getting greener is related. The melt runs off down to the desert and things start growing. Seems vaguely logical. :P

Yay! Everybody is considering my global warming theory. :P
Continental drift is another possibility, with Tyria moving closer to the equator.
Though these may have not been caused by nature. Perhaps some evil between GW1 and GW2 (GW 1.5?) caused it.

Continents shift around naturally, sea levels rise and fall due to slight variations in climate, and coastlines can be eroded into new shapes by the effect of wind and water. Regional climates are also dependent on the shape of the landmass - if you've ever watched "The Future is Wild" you'll see how this works (the effect is most extreme in programmes 9-13 when they predict the earth's climate and possible future forms of life in 200 million years from now when all of the planet's landmasses come together to form a supercontinent and global ocean).
Plus, one thing that nobody's mentioned here... The map of Tyria in the GW2 logo looks more like a sphere, so it's not going to look the same as a flat map anyway. There will be a considerable degree of distortion at each pole

With any map you have scale - I would say they just changed it, stretched it out a bit along the horizontal axis. Everything pretty much fits if you do this. If they took an old graphic it is quite trivial to stretch one axis, it is just odd to do that with a real map. This is especially true if a marketing/graphics design person thought it looked better (and it does).

Yeah... I really hate to do this, but this is probably more accurate:
It's just a bit warped, but you can clearly see where everything is. Since we know that the "continent of Tyria" does not take up that much of the "world of Tyria", I would just say don't look too much into the logo.

I was given the impression that GW2 takes place on several worlds and the war between them or something. Which could be possible, since after the gods Exodus, they left to create more worlds. The world known as Tyria was their first to create, as it is stated in the manual.
This would also fit in the 'globe' presentation of the world of Tyria in the logo.

Where did you read that? all i have read is that GW2 takes place on our Tyria, a hundred or so years after the Age of Abaddons troubles, and a current problem is the overwelming number of Races that seem to outnumber Humans.
Only thing i have ever heard on different worlds is the whole World Vs World thing (which i take into account as a sort of Europe vs America favor system)

Which sounds insane, as they have said that the battle will take weeks on end in our world. Then to be reset at a point. It'll be rather fun for the first few hours :P

@OP nice image work / spotting
I agree that GW2 is set 100's of years latter on the same world.
The World vs World to me is Server vs Server.
